We remember people through their stories. Story Portraits exists to honour the lives that shape us and ensure they are never forgotten.

Story Portraits is an ongoing body of work that combines contemporary portrait painting with recorded oral histories to preserve the lives, memories and experiences of people across Northern Ireland and beyond. Every portrait begins with conservation, allowing me to spend time listening before I paint. These conservations shape the work, creating portraits that reveal something deeper than a physical likeness. They become a reflection of a person’s life, character and the moments that have made them who they are. For those that take part, Story Portraits offer an opportunity to feel seen, heard and remembered. For those that encounter them, they provide a chance to really connect with the lives of others, discovering that behind every face is a story that reflects something of our shared humanity.

I welcome commissioned Story Portraits for individuals, families and organisations who wish to celebrate a significant life, preserve precious memories or share a story that deserves to be heard. Whether marking a milestone birthday, retirement, childhood, family history or bringing awareness to an experience that has shaped a life or community, each portrait begins in the same way-with conservation.
